Professional Background

Silas is a litigation lawyer whose practice is focused on insurance defence. He represents insurers and their insureds in personal injury and property damage claims, including motor vehicle accidents, occupiers’ liability claims and other negligence matters. He also works on insurance coverage disputes and assists senior lawyers on more complex matters, including professional liability claims and condominium disputes.

Silas enjoys the investigative and analytical side of insurance disputes, particularly digging into the facts to assess the applicable standard of care and determine where responsibility lies. He places a strong emphasis on communication, responsiveness and taking the initiative when a claim can reasonably be resolved. Where a strong position needs to be taken, he is equally comfortable advocating firmly for his client.

Before law school, Silas attended the University of Michigan–Dearborn. He played on the school’s American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 team and graduated with High Distinction. Outside of the office, he remains an avid hockey referee where, much like in litigation, he must carefully interpret written regulations and confidently explain difficult calls.
